Ubuntu's High Probability

For the past 4 years or so, we have been going back and forth and back again. Like school boys arguing over which girl is the prettiest in the class, we go at each other's throats and profess our love for the said things. That's right, we argue about whether iOS or Android is better.

We've heard arguments from the four corners of the globe, and yet, we are hardly one step closer towards agreeing that OS a, or OS b is the better. All this despite the introduction of WP7, 7.8 and WP8, and the pending arrival of BB10 as gushed over by many a tech site.

Someone new stepped on the scene quite recently. OK, this participant is not exactly new but, in the wacky world of smartphones, I think we all consider +Ubuntu  to be new. Sporting brand new 1 year old Galaxy Nexus apparel, a confident  Mark Shuttleworth presented Ubuntu's latest offering to the world. It is believed that the tech world unanimously stopped, steered and listened as the phone was put through its paces.

Swipe from the left, from the bottom or wherever else your heart desires and it will present you with some useful information and or options. This has largely been seen as a breath of fresh air by many. Although not particular smooth at first, a second demonstration at CES 2013 did even more to win over the hearts of onlookers. But the question remains; is it too little too late for Ubuntu in the land of mobile? Do they stand any chance of attracting users from the two biggest mobile platforms around today?

What I'm about to say next might shock you but, I believe that there are persons who are quite tired of the banter between Android and iOS and who long for something new. Maybe they are not fond of WP8 and perhaps, they have gotten over their once steamy love affair with Blackberry. There, I said it. I think that Ubuntu stands a chance of drawing some users away from other platforms, and I think that, with the right app support and advertising, they just might turn a few more heads than we expect.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls and all your pets; please, look out for the mobile version of Ubuntu on Android devices during 2013, and for the official release of the OS in the year 2014. I thank you.
